Birthday special: Jos Buttler – 3 lesser-known facts about the England star
Jos Buttler is regarded as one of the most talented young players in the English circuit and is well-known for his aggressive batting style. Buttler is a prime example of cricket in the contemporary era and has been instrumental in restoring England’s fortunes in shorter formats.
His improvisations and aggressive demeanour propelled him to greater heights, but despite a promising beginning, his time in whites has not had the same impact. Seeing his growth in the white-ball formats, he was named England’s skipper in T20Is and ODIs and has been leading the team well. As he turns 32, let us have a look at three interesting facts about the cricketer-
3. Most runs by an England batter in an over in T20Is (30)
Buttler holds the record for scoring the most runs in an over in the history of English cricket. Buttler hit three sixes and a couple of boundaries to achieve the feat against South Africa to score 30 in an over. His record is also the second-highest overall, after Yuvraj Singh.
2. Fastest Englishman to score 150 runs in an ODI
In a game against the Netherlands in 2022, Buttler etched his name in history and became the fastest English cricketer to reach 150 runs in an ODI match. Buttler was on a roll when he walked out to bat and went berserk. He took a toll on the bowlers and punished each one of them to first bag his century, and then went on to score 150 runs off just 65 deliveries.
1. Top three fastest ODI hundreds by an Englishman
While many can score a century in ODIs, there can be only one fastest. In Buttler’s case, the wicketkeeper batter is the fastest, the second fastest, and also the third fastest Englishman to score a ton as the list of the top three fastest centurions in English cricket comprises just one name, and that is of Jos Buttler. He scored two tons against Pakistan and one against the Netherlands.
