Lone battle: Highest run share by an individual batter in an ODI

Cricket is a team game and just like bowling where the bowlers take wickets in tandem, batters also try to stitch some crucial partnerships and help their team to post a competitive total. However, there have been several innings where a batter has done the bulk of the scoring while the others gave a little contribution. Here are the top three highest percentages of runs by an individual batter in completed ODI innings.

3. Kapil Dev (65.78 – vs Zimbabwe in 1983)

Indian skipper Kapil Dev was excellent in the group stage match of the 1983 World Cup game against the Zimbabwe, when he scored an epic 175* and helped his team to post a competitive 266/8. India won the contest easily and eventually went on to their first-ever World Cup trophy after beating West Indies in the final match.

2. David Warner (66.66 – vs Zimbabwe in 2022)

Team Australia batter David Warner was simply excellent with the bat as his teammates struggled to stay on the crease against a spirited Zimbabwe bowling line-up in the final ODI of the recent-concluded series. The left-handed batter scored 94, while the second-highest scorer was Glenn Maxwell’s 19. Chasing 142, Zimbabwe stuttered a bit but went on to win the contest by seven wickets and completed a historic victory on Australian soil.

1. Vivian Richards (68.48% – vs England in 1984)

The record for the highest percentage of runs by a batsman in a completed ODI innings belongs to West Indian veteran batter Viv Richards. The stalwart played a knock of an unbeaten 189 against England at Manchester in 1984 as he scored 69.48 % of his team’s score of 272.
