Netherlands announce strong squad for T20 World Cup 2022
Netherlands have announced their 15-player squad for the T20 World Cup 2022 and there’s a notable inclusion in the form of Roelof van der Merwe. The veteran all-rounder, who has also represented South Africa in international cricket, last played for Netherlands in November 2021 and was seemingly not in the scheme of things in this year’s tournament.
However, he’ll serve the Dutch side in the gala tournament alongside the likes of Colin Ackermann, Timm van der Gugten, Brandon Glover, Fred Klaassen and Paul van Meekeren. Scott Edwards will lead the team and he’ll be determined to make a significant impact in Australia. After all, this Netherlands looks much stronger than the team which lost to New Zealand at home recently.
We will look to continue the progression that was evident through the summer: Ryan Cook
“We have assembled a well balanced squad with an exciting blend of youth and experience for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The experience playing in the Super League will stand the team in good stead and good confidence can be taken from these performances,” team’s head coach Ryan Cook stated.
“We will look to continue the progression that was evident through the summer into the tournament and have some quality preparation planned prior to the event which will help the readiness for the group in both skills and cohesion,” he added.
Meanwhile, Netherlands secured a World Cup berth through the qualifier route. They have been placed in Group A alongside Namibia, Sri Lanka and the UAE. The top two teams from the group will qualify for the Super 12 stage and Scott Edwards’ side will want to be one of them.
