Asia Cup 2022 schedule announced, India to face Pakistan on August 28
The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced the much-awaited schedule for Asia Cup 2022 on August 2. The tournament is set to commence on August 27 and will feature 13 matches, including the final on September 11. Arch-rivals India and Pakistan will face off in the headline clash in the second match of the tournament on August 28 in Dubai.
After much speculation and deliberation, the Asia Cup finally got the green light last month after Sri Lanka pulled out of hosting the tournament due to the ongoing political turmoil in the island nation, with the UAE decided as the replacement venue.
It is worth noting that the tournament will feature six nations – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan and the qualifying nation, which will be one among UAE, Kuwait, Hong Kong, or Singapore. The sixth team will join India and Pakistan in group A, while group B consists of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.
UAE is the venue for the tournament and two grounds (Dubai International Cricket Stadium and Sharjah Cricket Stadium) will host all the matches starting at 7:30 PM IST. Both the grounds will host thirteen games of the tournament, including The Dubai International Cricket Stadium hosting the final.
Reigning champions and the most successful side in the tournament’s history, India will take on Pakistan in a blockbuster clash which will be a rehearsal for their clash in the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year. The tournament will also serve as a perfect opportunity for all the other Asian teams to test their squad ahead of ICC’s mega event.
