Ravi Shastri recalls Rohit Sharma’s reaction after missing century at Lord’s

Team India had to face a big defeat at the hands of England during the second ODI match at Lords, London on July 14 (Thursday). India skipper Rohit Sharma failed to give any contribution as the right-handed batter got out on zero after facing ten balls as India lost the match by 100 runs.

Meanwhile, former India head coach Ravi Shastri remembered one of Rohit’s innings at the same venue during a Test series when India last toured England. To note, the right-handed batter scored an excellent 83 runs but missed his well-deserved century by 17 runs as his team went on to win the second Test match of the series.

Rohit Sharma was upset and remained in a zone for a while: Ravi Shastri

“When Rohit got out, he came back to the dressing room and just sat quietly on a table. He was in a daze. He just wanted that hundred. A special feeling for any player to get a hundred at Lord’s. And you could see that he was really really dejected. But he made up for it at The Oval,” Shastri said on air during the 2nd ODI between India and England at Lord’s.

Rohit was the leading run-scorer (from visitors) in that Test series after amassing 368 runs but the tour got rescheduled after the detection of several Covid-19 cases in the Indian camp. The Indian skipper also missed the rescheduled Test match against England after testing Covid-19 positive. The home team went on to win the match comfortably with Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow stroking excellent centuries.

Meanwhile, the ODI series is currently in balance with both teams winning one match each. The third and final ODI match of the series will be played in Manchester on July 17 (Sunday). Both England and India will want to win the final match and clinch the series. Rohit will also look to have a good outing with the bat and give a match-winning contribution.
