Glenn Maxwell looks up to revive Test career against Sri Lanka

Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell’s Test career never got going since he received his ‘baggy green’ in 2013 against India. The baggy green is given to Australian players when they make their Test debut for their country and they receive only one for their entire career.

The allrounder has now opened up about his career in the longest format after being selected in the Australian squad to take on Sri Lanka in a two-match Test series. Maxwell in a conversation with reporters told that his baggy green has completely deteriorated and he might need a new one

My wife said that it has completely fallen apart: Glenn Maxwell

“My wife took it out yesterday and it had completely fallen apart. She said ‘I don’t think I can bring this,’ it looked terrible. So I’m going to need a new one over here. It’s happened to a few of the boys. “I’m probably going to have to put it in a glass case and leave it there I reckon. I’ll see if I can get it fixed when I get home but at the moment, it’s probably a bit too late for that.” I’ve done a bit of red-ball work training-wise, always trying to stay ready just in case, knowing a fair few sub-continent tours was coming up, not just this year but next year as well,” Maxwell said as quoted by Indian Express. “But at some stage, you think you might give up hope but it was just so nice to get the tap on the shoulder” he added.

Maxwell played his last Test match against Bangladesh five years ago. The right-handed batter has now been added to the Australian squad replacing the left-handed batter Travis Head. Talking about Maxwell’s numbers in Test cricket, he has played seven matches and scored 339 runs at an average of 26.07 with one century to his name. With the ball, he has scalped a total of eight wickets. He will be looking to perform well in the first Test match slated to be played in Galle on June 29.
