Most runs scored in boundaries in a Test match
Despite the Test match being one of the slowest moving formats of the game, there has been some entertainment associated with it always. In fact, the final day of a lot of Tests have attracted a lot of fans, as any of the three results are possible. Boundaries can be a big rescue act for the batters in tough situations and will in fact break the rhythm of the bowler as well. Having said that, here are the most runs scored in boundaries in a Test match.
962 – Pakistan vs India in 2006
In India’s tour of Pakistan in 2005 in the Faisalabad Test, the men in green scored a mammoth 588 in the first innings, and India followed it up with 603 in their first innings. In reply, Pakistan managed to set a target of 476, and most of the runs in the Test came through sixes and fours. Rahul Dravid, Inzamam-Ul-Haq, Shahid Afridi, MS Dhoni, Younis Khan, Mohammad Yousuf, all scored centuries in the Test and a total of 962 runs came through boundaries in the Test which ranks third in the list.
976 – Australia vs India in 2004
India entered Australia in 2003 with the clear thought of making a statement and they manage to level the series 1-1 on the Australian soil. It was a Test clearly for the batters as runs kept flowing from both ends and Sachin Tendulkar scored an unbeaten 241 in the first innings. VVS Laxman, Justin Langer, Simon Katich were the other centuries in the game. A total of 976 boundaries were scored in the Test and it ranks the second for most runs scored in boundaries in a Test match.
1044 – England vs New Zealand in 2022
One of the memorable victories for England came at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham in the second Test when the hosts produced a stunning chase on the final day. Jonny Bairstow was the man in focus, as he pummelled the New Zealand bowling attack to all parts with a splendid 136-run knock. It was quite a fast-paced game right from England’s first innings and it was clear that the home side were not just happy to settle for a draw. A total of 1044 runs were scored in the Test in boundaries and it is the highest tally in Test in terms of fours or sixes.
