Fastest players to score 10,000 Test runs
Test cricket is considered to be one of the hardest formats of the game as it tests a batter’s grit and patience. It is every batters’ dream to play the longest format of the game and excel in it and a few batters have shown some immense mental strength and gone on to amass 10,000 runs in the longest format of the game. On that note, let us take a look at three batters who have gone on to score 10,000 in quick time:
Rahul Dravid (206 innings)
The veteran batter Rahul Dravid is considered one of the greatest batters to represent India. The right-handed batter took 206 innings to reach the milestone of 10,000 runs in the longest format of the game. Dravid made his Test debut in 1996 and completed 10000 runs in 2008.
Ricky Ponting (196 innings)
Australian former skipper and legendary batter Ricky Ponting comes second in this elite list. The former Australia skipper Ponting reached the 10,000 Test runs in 196 innings. Just like Dravid, he also achieved the record in 2008 as he was playing against West Indies.
Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara and Brian Lara (195 innings)
There are three joint-holders for this record in form of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar, Kumar Sangakkara, and the stylish batter Brian Lara. All three batters had reached the milestone of scoring 10,000 runs in 195 innings. While Sachin and Sangakkara achieved this record in 2005 against Pakistan and Australia respectively, Lara was the first batter to cross the 10,000-run mark in Test cricket amongst them as the left-handed batter from West Indies achieved the record against England in 2004. Lara scored 11953 Test runs in 232 innings at an excellent average of 52.88 which included 34 centuries and 48 half-centuries.
