5 Players to watch out for in ENG vs NZ Test series
England are set to play a three-match Test series against New Zealand and the home series will mark a new era for the hosts who have struggled in the last couple of years in the longest format. After a dismal Ashes series, England lost another away series to West indies 1-0 and Joe Root stepped down as captain as well. Brendon McCullum has been handed over the head coach responsibility while Ben Stokes will lead the side.
Ben Stokes
Ben Stokes has been a vital cog in the England line up ever since his international debut, but a lot more will be expected out of him in the series. Stokes has played some memorable innings in the past for England and he has always been up for a fight as well. With captaincy handed over now, he has already confirmed he will bat at number six as well, and it will be interesting to see how he goes about his business while batting.
Kane Williamson
Kane Williamson has returned to the New Zealand squad after an injury break and all eyes will be on his batting form which suffered a blow in the recent IPL 2022. The right hander has not found his groove yet since his return and this will be an important series for him to get back his golden touch.
Joe Root
Joe Root has been one of the top Test batters in the last two years despite England’s poor show and his form is always going to be key to the side. He is likely to get back his best position of number four and will be free from the responsibilities of captaincy. However, this will be an important series for him to be at his best without the captaincy hat as well.
James Anderson
Veteran bowler James Anderson is back in the squad after getting dropped for the West Indies tour and he will once again be a key player in the series. The 39-year-old needs to have a good series to retain his place in the XI as most of the regular fast bowlers are down with injuries at the moment. Anderson still has the desire to make an impact and there has not been any doubt over his skills still.
Kyle Jamieson
Kyle Jamieson had started his Test career incredibly, but seemed to have tapered off in the last few Tests and he had taken a break during the IPL 2022 as well. However, with ample rest time, Jamieson will be looking to be back at his best and he will play a crucial role for New Zealand once he is back in his prime.
