Amy Satterthwaite- 3 best performances in international cricket
Amy Satterthwaite announced her retirement from international cricket on May 27 after missing out on a central contract from the New Zealand Cricket (NZC). The all-rounder was one of the finest cricketers on her team and was also the most capped player for her side in ODIs and the second-most capped player in T20Is. She was adjudged as ICC’s Women’s ODI Player of the Year in 2017, which further built up her career as she went on to lead the national side in 2018 and 2019.
In 145 ODI matches and 111 T20I matches, she scored 4639 runs and 1784 runs respectively. She has a total of seven centuries and 28 half-centuries to her name. No doubt, she was one of the finest that the country had ever seen. Now that she has called her time, let us have a look at three of her best performances in international cricket-
119*(128) vs England, 2021
Satterthwaite showcased one of her finest performances while playing against England in the third ODI of the home series. She smashed an unbeaten 119 runs in 128 deliveries to register her seventh ODI century. England had posted a target of 221 runs in the first innings. The visitors faced a major blow when they lost openers cheaply. Satterthwaite walked in at No. 3 and fired with the bat to lead her team to a victory.
137*(117) vs Pakistan, 2016
Batting first in the innings, New Zealand posted a humungous total of 309 runs at the loss of just four wickets in the 50-over game against Pakistan in the second ODI of their visit. After the opening batters put up a 50-run stand to kickstart the game, they lost the temperament shortly. Satterthwaite steered the innings and sailed through till the end by scoring an unbeaten 137 runs off 117 deliveries to take her side to cross the 300-run mark on the scoreboard. Thanks to her fine knock, New Zealand won the game by 60 runs (D/L Method).
6/17 vs England, 2007
The prolific all-rounder registered her career-best bowling figures in the T20I setup. Batting first, New Zealand had posted a total of 150/6 as all the batters from the top and middle-order had contributed a bit. England had a top-notch batting lineup, and while it looked like an easy chase, Satterthwaite gave the batters a miserable time on the field as she wreaked havoc with the ball and went on to scalp six wickets in the innings, thereby dishing out England for 112 runs. Her match-winning spell awarded her the Player of the Match title.
