Most 50+ scores in an IPL season
Reaching the landmark of a half-century is a special thing for a batter in any particular format. In the T20 format, there is hardly any time to react and settle down for the players. Scoring 50 or more runs in a 20-over match is something a batter looks for in his personal milestone and for the team’s cause.
Let’s take a look at the players with the most 50 plus scores in an IPL edition:
Chris Gayle, Kane Williamson, and Jos Buttler (8)
Chris Gayle, Kane Williamson, and Jos Buttler have all smashed eight 50-plus scores each in a single season of the IPL. The powerhouse from West Indies, Gayle slammed those scores in the 2012 campaign as he amassed 733 runs in 14 innings with one century and seven half-centuries to win the Orange Cap as well.
Kane Williamson racked up 735 runs in 17 innings with eight half-centuries in the 2018 season. He also grabbed the Orange Cap award in that edition. On the other hand, Jos Buttler has just been phenomenal in the ongoing IPL 2022. In 16 innings, he has hammered 824 runs with four centuries and as many half-centuries as he is also on the verge to win the award.
David Warner (9)
David Warner finds himself on the second spot in this elite list. The left-handed pocket-sized dynamo has smashed nine 50-plus scores twice in an IPL campaign. In 2016, he mustered 848 runs in 17 innings with nine half-centuries to his name. The southpaw then slammed 692 runs in 12 innings, which included one century and eight half-centuries in the 2019 season. He won the Orange Cap award for finishing the series as the highest run-scorer.
Virat Kohli (11)
Virat Kohli holds the record for hitting the most 50-plus scores in an IPL season. He managed to script one of the most memorable seasons in 2016. The star right-handed batter smashed 973 runs in 16 innings with four tons and seven fifties and also won the Orange Cap. It is also the most runs scored by any player in an edition. His record of four centuries was just recently equaled by Jos Buttler in the ongoing 2022 campaign.
