The support Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai receive in IPL is crazy: David Warner
David Warner, in his latest interview, spoke about his recent outing in the IPL. The Australian opener bowed out of the tournament after Delhi Capitals failed to qualify for the Playoffs. Warner opened up about his experience in the IPL and revealed three teams – Mumbai Indians (MI), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have got insane support in the competition, irrespective of the venues.
IPL 2022 saw teams lock horns in a restricted environment and were limited to only a few venues, resulting in most of the franchises playing away from their home ground. The former Australian captain made the point that such is the extent of their fan following that they receive support even at the opposition’s stadiums.
“It’s crazy. I think if you play, there are three specific teams – Mumbai, RCB, and Chennai. Doesn’t matter where you play them, even if you are at your home venue, there’s going for them. So yeah, you are up against it. So, hopefully, you don’t come up against them too often.” Warner told Fox Cricket.
Ricky Ponting helped polish his batting, says David Warner
The southpaw enjoyed a rejuvenated campaign for the Capitals in IPL 2022. After all the controversies with Sunrisers Hyderabad last term, the former Australian captain amassed 432 runs, opening the batting for Delhi. Warner received close attention from the legendary Ricky Ponting, who made a few amendments to Warner’s batting technique.
“With Ricky, he noticed something in my first net session about where I was picking the bat up. It was just a little small thing that I didn’t even notice and it was at the time of the point of delivery that the bowler was releasing, my bat was still facing down, and then I’ll take the bat up.” Warned added.
Warner will be an important part of the Australian squad touring Sri Lanka for three T20Is, five ODIs, and two Tests next month. Although the series is facing uncertainties due to civil unrest in Sri Lanka.
