David Miller – The T20 veteran who has stunned many with his antics for GT
David Miller has been one of South Africa’s most reliable middle-order batters ever since he first burst onto the scene a decade ago. However, he remained an unsung hero for most of his career as he was in the shadows of his iconic teammates AB de Villiers and Faf du Plessis.
Despite not getting a fair share of credit for his match-winning abilities with the bat, Miller did not shy away from showcasing his talent whenever he got opportunities to play the franchise T20 leagues across the globe.
Without further ado, here’s a look at the Proteas sensation made his presence felt for new entrants Gujarat Titans exceptionally well in the ongoing IPL 2022.
David Miller: One of the saviours of GT in IPL 2022
Miller was released by the Rajasthan Royals after IPL 2021 and he found no takers when his name was announced on the first day of the two-day mega auction in February. On the second day, there was an intense bidding war between RR and GT with the latter successfully roping him in for INR 3 crore. With the new franchise showing faith in him, the senior South African cricketer also lived up to the expectations as he went on to became one of their lethal finishers along with the likes of skipper Hardik Pandya, Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan.
While he did have his fair share of off days, the Proteas power-hitter gave the bowlers a run for their money whenever he was well set at the crease. His highest score in the ongoing season is an unbeaten 94 against CSK where he eventually powered GT to an impressive three-wicket win in the final over.
As the old saying goes ‘Cometh the Hour, Cometh the Man’, David proved it right in Qualifier 1 against his former team Rajasthan Royals where he anchored in a stiff 189-run chase and was adjudged the Player of the Match for his unbeaten 38-ball 68. This quickfire knock powered the Titans to their first-ever IPL final.
Miller has so far amassed 449 runs from 15 matches and remained unbeaten on eight of those occasions, including two half-centuries at a strike rate of 141.19. Now, the southpaw is just one knock away from glory as the Gujarat Titans look to bag the prestigious IPL title in their maiden season in their own backyard, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, on May 29
