IPL 2022: CSK vs GT Preview – Gujarat one win away from top two spot

The defending champions Chennai Super Kings will be locking horns with an in-form Gujarat Titans in Match 62 of IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 15. Both teams will be heading into this clash on the back of contrasting results in their respective encounters. While Chennai’s title defence ended after a five-wicket loss to Mumbai Indians, Gujarat became the first side to seal a playoff berth after a 62-run win over Lucknow Super Giants. Meanwhile, GT had also handed CSK a three-wicket defeat in the reverse fixture.

With just two more fixtures remaining, CSK would be hoping to sign off with consolation wins by clicking well as a unit for one last time. They were really off-colour with the bat against Mumbai and while Devon Conway was dismissed in an unfortunate manner, the other batters failed to live up to the expectations barring skipper MS Dhoni, who staged a lone battle with an unbeaten 36 runs from 33 deliveries. The bowlers, on the other hand, did dismiss half of MI’s side but the 97-run total was never going to be enough.

The Titans, on the other hand, showed great resistance on a slow wicket where opener Shubman Gill’s patient knock of a 49-ball 63 powered them to 144/4 before the bowlers came to the party and bamboozled the Lucknow batters, bundling them out just 82 in the 14th over. Rashid Khan starred with figures of 4/24 that broke the opposition’s backbone.
