5 longest sixes in IPL history

T20 is such a fast and thrilling format that it demands sixes from the batters. Depositing the ball into the stands is a common sight in this exciting format. A batter looks to go for the maximum in search of quick runs for his team. But hitting the longest sixes requires a lot of power, ability, and skill. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), few cricketers have generated the power to send the ball sailing into the crowd.

Let’s take a look at the 5 longest sixes in the history of IPL:

5.Ross, Taylor, Yuvraj Singh, and Chris Gayle (119m)

Ross Taylor, Yuvraj Singh, and Chris Gayle are all tied at no. fifth position for smashing a 119m six. Ross Taylor hammered a 119m six against Jacob Oram while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2008., while the sixer King Yuvraj Singh slammed a 119m six against Albie Morkel playing for Punjab Kings (PBKS) against CSK in Centurion in the year 2009. Chris Gayle struck a six of similar distance off the bowling of spin bowler Ali Murtaza while playing for RCB against the now-defunct team Pune Warriors India (PWI) in Bangalore in 2013.

4.Robin Uthappa (120m)

Robin Uthappa hit a humongous 120m six against Dwayne Bravo while playing for RCB against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai in 2010. It is, to date, the fourth-biggest six in the history of the tournament as the ball hit the concrete roof of the stadium.

3.Adam Gilchrist (122m)

Adam Gilchrist smashed a monstrous 122m six off Charl Langeveldt while playing for PBKS against RCB at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala in 2011. Gilchrist struck a century in the match, which included eight fours and nine sixes including the one which is still the third-biggest six in the IPL.

2.Praveen Kumar (124m)

A surprise and shocking name in this list is a seam bowler. Praveen Kumar hit the second-longest six in the history of the tournament as he smashed the gigantic hit against one of the world’s premier and best death bowlers Lasith Malinga while playing for PBKS against MI at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in 2013.

1.Albie Morkel (125m)

Former South African all-rounder Albie Morkel holds the record for hitting the longest six in the tournament’s history. The left-handed power-hitter slammed a gigantic six of 125m off the bowling of spinner Pragyan Ojha while batting for CSK against Deccan Chargers in Chennai in the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008.
