IPL 2022: GT vs PBKS Preview – In-form Gujarat up against desperate Punjab

Table-toppers Gujarat Titans will take on Punjab Kings in the 48th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) on Tuesday (May 3). The Titans are on a roll in their debut season winning 8 out of nine matches and a win in this game would officially secure their place in the playoffs. The Kings, on the other hand, are in a must-win situation having won four out of nine matches so far.

Gujarat Titans won the previous encounter between the two teams as they had chased down 190 runs thanks to Shubman Gill’s 96 and Rahul Tewatia’s two sixes off the last two balls. With a lot at stake, even this encounter between the two teams is expected to go down the wire.

Punjab Kings will be hoping to put up a collective performance in order to keep their playoffs hopes alive while the Titans don’t need to change much and will be looking to go about their business like they’ve done throughout the season.

Match 48 – Gujarat Titans vs Punjab Kings

Time: 7:30 PM IST

Venue: DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai.

Playing Combinations

Gujarat Titans

The Titans will be tempted to rest their quick bowlers, especially Mohammed Shami and Lockie Ferguson who have run in hard in all matches. But they might resist it for this game at least as a playoff spot is not officially secured yet. They are unlikely to make any changes unless Abhinav Manohar is fit and ready to play this game.

Probable XI: Wriddhiman Saha (WK), Shubman Gill, Abhinav Manohar/Sai Sudharsan, Hardik Pandya (C), David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Alzarri Joseph, Lockie Ferguson, Yash Dayal, Mohammed Shami.

Punjab Kings

The Mayank Agarwal-led side has made quite a few changes to their line-up in the previous game. But even they are not likely to tinker with their XI despite losing the previous game. They would want their batters to take up more responsibility though with bowlers doing their job properly.

Probable XI: Mayank Agarwal (C), Shikhar Dhawan, Liam Livingstone, Jonny Bairstow, Jitesh Sharma (WK), Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Rishi Dhawan, Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar, Sandeep Sharma, Arshdeep Singh.
