Daniel Vettori backs underfire Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli has looked out of touch in the ongoing IPL 2022. While he does have a couple of 40+ scores under his belt, he has failed to live up to the expectations. Kohli bagged two consecutive golden ducks in RCB’s last two outings against the Lucknow Super Giants and the southern rivals Sunrisers Hyderabad respectively. The last match against SRH was a forgettable one for RCB as they were skittled out for a paltry 68.
Meanwhile, former New Zealand spinner and RCB skipper Daniel Vettori has come forward and backed Kohli despite a slump in form and at the same time has confidently said that the batting megastar will definitely come out of it. Apart from this, the ex-left-arm spinner has offered a valuable piece of advice for the 33-year-old as well.
I think space is the key for Virat Kohli: Daniel Vettori
“People talk about him being mentally fatigued, but I think he’s better than that, I think he’s bigger than that. I think he’ll find a way to battle through it and the way is through that aggressive nature”, said Daniel Vettori while speaking to ESPNcricinfo.
“I think this is the time when he’d turn to his friends, his closest confidantes and maybe a mentor from when he was young. I think space is the key, and understanding and respect for him as a player,” he added.
In the eight matches that Virat Kohli has played so far this season, he has only managed 119 runs averaging 17 and a strike rate of 122.68. In the last game, South African pace sensation Marco Jansen successfully breached his defence as Kohli ended up giving an easy catch to the slip fielder which brought his knock to an abrupt end that lasted only a ball. The Royal Challengers Bangalore eventually went on to lose the match by nine wickets in just eight overs.
The Delhi cricketer was then seen having a discussion with West Indies legend and SRH batting coach Brian Lara after the contest which went viral on social media in no time.
