IPL 2022: GT vs KKR Review – Gujarat claim their 6th victory
Gujarat Titans registered their sixth victory of the season and moved to the top of the table after a hard-fought victory against KKR in Match 35 of IPL 2022. KKR lost early wickets and never had the momentum until Andre Russell came out to bat. However, Russell had too much to do in the end and KKR ended up short by eight runs in a pretty close encounter.
Earlier, Gujarat Titans won the toss and surprisingly opted to bat first, which hasn’t been the trend. The side lost Shubman Gill early but then Wriddhiman Saha and Hardik stitched a good partnership alongside a valuable innings from David Miller. However, once Hardik and Miller were dismissed, Gujarat lost a string of wickets and could manage just 156, though that proved enough in the end.
Top Performers of the game
Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya played a captain’s innings after coming in at three and kept the scoreboard ticking straight away. The right-hander anchored the innings with a 49 ball-67 that included four fours and two sixes and top-scored for the Gujarat Titans as well. He has been in good touch this season but wasn’t able to bowl due to his groin injury issues.
Andre Russell
Andre Russell was mind-blowing with both bat and ball for the Kolkata Knight Riders but was unfortunate to end up on the losing side. The West Indian bowled the 20th over and picked up 4 wickets in just one over he bowled to finish with figures of 4/5. With the bat, he kept his side in the chase with a 25-ball 48 that included six sixes. However, he could not finish the game.
What next for the two teams
Gujarat Titans will be up against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on 27th April at the Wankhede Stadium while the Kolkata Knight Riders will next play the Delhi Capitals on 28th of April at the same venue.
