Should Virat Kohli take a break?
Virat Kohli is facing a hard time in his career as the former India and Royal Challengers Bangalore captain is struggling to make his bat talk. The 33-year-old, in the hopes of regaining his form, stepped down as captain of both India and his franchise RCB, but it hasn’t worked out.
Even his IPL form has seen an all-time low, as the stylish batter has been able to score just 119 runs in the first seven games this season. While there has been criticism around his poor form, it is actually a matter of concern for him.
Kohli has a few more years of cricket in his career certainly, and his struggle at this point in time suggests that he should take a small break, work on himself, release all the tension and get back into the game.
The move might seem to be wrong for some and may lead to negative thoughts, but for a player who has done so much for his country, this will be just the right time to get off the field given he has gone through a lot in the past year.
A gap might help him rejuvenate himself and bounce back stronger in the game, and stand up to his ‘King Kohli’ title. Kohli has been a proven match-winner all these years but has struggled has not got a century in the past 100 professional games.
His lengthy run of inconsistency began in 2019, and although hitting half-centuries on occasions, he has not recorded an international 100 in the past two and a half years. He has struggled to get off the mark at times, and his longer-format average has decreased significantly.
Kohli won the Sir Garfield Sobers Award for ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Decade in the year 2020 for his contribution to the game throughout the ten years. That is the form he has to get back to, and a diversion would work in his best interest.
