5 longest sixes ever in the history of IPL

T20 is such a format that it demands sixes from the batters. Depositing the ball into the stands is a common sight in this enthralling and fascinating format. A batter looks to go for the big hits in search of quick runs for his side. But hitting the biggest and longest sixes requires a lot of power and skill. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), few players have generated the power to send it big into the stands.

Let’s take a look at the 5 longest sixes ever in IPL history:

5.Chris Gayle, Ross, Taylor, and Yuvraj Singh (119m)

Chris Gayle, Ross Taylor, and Yuvraj all are tied for hitting a 119m six. Gayle smashed a humongous maximum off the bowling of spinner Ali Murtaza while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against the now-defunct side Pune Warriors India (PWI) in Bangalore in 2013.

Ross Taylor slammed a 119m six against his national teammate Jacob Oram while playing for RCB against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Chennai in 2008. Sixer King Yuvraj Singh also hammered a 119m maximum against Albie Morkel playing for Punjab Kings (PBKS) against CSK in Centurion in 2009.

4.Robin Uthappa (120m)

Robin Uthappa smacked a stunning 120m six against Dwayne Bravo while playing for RCB against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai in the year 2010. It is the fourth-longest six in the history of the tournament as the ball even hit the concrete roof of the stadium.

3.Adam Gilchrist (122m)

Adam Gilchrist struck a monstrous 122m six off the bowling of pacer Charl Langeveldt while batting for PBKS against RCB at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala in 2011. Gilchrist smashed a century in that game, which included eight fours and nine maximums, including the one which is still the third-longest six in the IPL.

2.Praveen Kumar (124m)

A surprise name in this list is seam bowler Praveen Kumar, who has hit the second-longest six in the history of the IPL. The pacer hit this towering 124m biggie against one of the world’s premier death bowlers, Lasith Malinga, while playing for PBKS against MI at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in 2013.

1.Albie Morkel (125m)

Former Protea all-rounder Albie Morkel holds the record for smashing the longest six in the IPL. The left-handed power-hitter slammed the gigantic 125m six off the bowling of spinner Pragyan Ojha while batting for CSK against Deccan Chargers in Chennai in the inaugural 2008 season.
