I want to help Team India lift the T20 World Cup 2022: Dinesh Karthik
Dinesh Karthik’s dream run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 continued as he played yet another stellar knock. On Saturday (April 16), the veteran wicketkeeper-batter paced his knock to perfection and scored an unbeaten 66 off just 34 deliveries. Riding on his brilliance, RCB posted 189/5 while batting first and eventually won the contest by 16 runs. While Karthik is certainly pleased with his stellar show this season, his long-term vision is to play for India again.
Following the conclusion of the contest, Karthik was interviewed by none other than Virat Kohli. While the former RCB skipper lavished praises on the wicketkeeper’s blitzes, the latter talked about his future goals. Karthik, who last represented India in the 2019 World Cup, stated he’s determined to feature in the T20 World Cup 2022, which will take place later this year in Australia.
The bigger vision is that I want to play for the country: Dinesh Karthik
“The bigger vision is that I want to play for the country. I know there is a World Cup around the corner. I want to be part of that World Cup desperately and help India cross that line,” Karthik said on Saturday. Notably, India haven’t lifted an ICC title since their Champions Trophy triumph in 2013. Hence, the 36-year-old is determined to end the national team’s trophy drought.
“It’s been a long time since India won a multi-nation tournament. I want to be that person who is helping India do that. For that, you need to be aware of so many things, try and be that player who people think ‘hey this guy is doing something special,” asserted the 36-year-old.
Meanwhile, the 36-year-old revealed he has been working hard in training sessions to keep himself fit. “Every day I practice with that intent in my mind. Credit to my coach who has put me through so many drills to make sure I get the best out of myself. As you grow older, it’s important to stay fit. I have tried my best to do it,” stated the star wicketkeeper.
