I am working on leg spin variation to add new dimension to my game: Varun Chakaravarthy
Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Varun Chakaravarthy noted that he has been trying to add a new variation to his armoury for the last two years. The mystery spinner was retained by his franchise ahead of the mega auction and he has picked up four wickets in five games so far in this edition at a decent economy rate of 7.30. Chakaravarthy has formed a formidable partnership with Sunil Narine in the middle overs and the duo has been quite effective in terms of reducing the run flow as well as picking up wickets.
Chakaravarthy made his debut for India last year after some good outings for KKR in IPL 2021 and was picked in the T20 World Cup squad as well. However, he wasn’t at his best in the big tournament and proved to be quite ineffective despite having a lot of variations under his kitty. The Tamil Nadu lad has been injury-prone for a long time but he has improved his fitness levels in recent times which is a positive sign moving forward for his international and IPL career.
I need to build more confidence and start bowling it more: Varun Chakaravarthy
The spinner mentioned his rehabilitation at the NCA and noted that he has felt a lot fitter post the injury recovery. He added that he has been working on a new variation and reckoned that he has used it in a few games already. The 30-year-old was optimistic that the variation will add a different dimension to his game if it comes out well and felt the need for more confidence to bowl it more often.
“I was at the NCA for the treatment of my injury. Now it is resolved very well. I could take the field without any pain killer. So, I am feeling fitter and that has helped me to bowl a lot better. I am working on a legspin (variation). I have been working for it in the last two years. I have bowled it in a few matches and I have got a wicket out of that also. If it starts clicking well it will definitely add a new dimension to my game. I need to build more confidence and start bowling it more,” Varun Chakaravarthy was quoted as saying on KKR’s official website
