I couldn’t figure out how to set field for Shaw: Shreyas Iyer

After a couple of thumping defeats, Delhi Capitals bounced back and thrashed Kolkata Knight Riders by 44 runs on Sunday (April 10), climbing to the sixth position in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 points table. It must be noted that KKR were on a roll before this clash, clinching three of their first four games. However, they looked completely down and out against Rishabh Pant’s team and suffered a big defeat.

One of the chief architects of DC’s triumph was opener Prithvi Shaw, who went after the bowlers from the outset. The pocket-sized dynamo played some delightful shots all over the park as the likes of Umesh Yadav and Pat Cummins endured a hard time against him. The young dasher eventually fell prey to Varun Chakravarthy but only after scoring 51 off 29 deliveries.

Prithvi Shaw can change the game in the powerplay: Shreyas Iyer

With Shaw smashing one boundary after another, KKR skipper Shreyas Iyer was left clueless over the field placements. Shreyas admitted the same after the game while lauding the young opener for his stellar knock.

“Prithvi Shaw is a type of batsman who can change the game in the powerplay. I’ve played with him before, obviously. He hits the good shots and even as a captain, I can’t figure out how to set the field for him,” Shreyas said in the post-match press conference.

The 27-year-old further stated Shaw tends to be watchful against the spinners. Hence, he brought Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine into the attack to restrict him. “Prithvi is someone who doesn’t go really big against spinners. Since he got a really good start, I tried to restrict the momentum that they got. I thought Varun and Sunil are really experienced bowlers, and they could have restricted at that point of time and give us a good hold,” said Shreyas.

Meanwhile, KKR are now second in the points table with three wins in five games. They’ll next meet Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Friday (April 15).
