LSG might look struggling but they’re actually playing well: Graeme Smith
Graeme Smith, former Proteas captain, is all praises for the debutant team Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) after seeing them perform this season. LSG started off with a loss against the Gujarat Titans but made a remarkable comeback by winning their next three matches in IPL 2022.
KL Rahul has led his side to victories against Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Delhi Capitals. The team has impressed everyone with their performances this year with every player contributing to the side, be it the skipper and Quinton de Kock with the bat in the opening, Deepak Hooda and Ayush Badoni steering the game in the middle, or the bowlers handling the pressure in the death overs.
Smith praised the team after seeing them fight in their debut season and said that the team might look weak on paper, but it is the exact opposite. “Every time you look at their team on paper, you think they’re going to struggle. But they’re actually playing well as a team. Their bowling attack is not outstanding on paper, but they do their job; they function well in partnerships. They’re in the tournament now. Their confidence is up and they’re pushing the older IPL teams,” Smith was quoted as saying by Cricket.com.
LSG have won three matches out of the four played so far
After their third win of the season, LSG climbed up to the second spot with six points to their name. After a close game with the Gujarat Titans in their series opener, they bounced back stronger. LSG have luck favouring them.
From what has been observed so far, if one player fails to perform there is a backup for the team. If they fail to perform with the bat, the bowlers shine bright. If the openers fail, the middle order batters save the day. But they have got it all balanced, and have managed very well in their first-ever IPL.
The Lucknow Super Giants will face the Rajasthan Royals next when the two teams lock horns at the Wankhede Stadium on April 10, Sunday evening.
