Pat Cummins was getting bowled every now and then in nets before MI clash: Shreyas Iyer
The latest IPL 2022 clash between KKR and MI brought all the entertainment for fans around the world as some brutal hitting came to the fore at the MCA, Pune. The match that looked like moving in favour of the five-time champions, was literally snatched away by the ruthless hitting of Pat Cummins. Cummins smashed 56* off 15 to take KKR home with four overs remaining while chasing 162 runs.
In the same light, the KKR skipper, Shreyas Iyer added that he couldn’t believe his eyes with the way Cummins operated in the game. He was getting bowled every now and then in the nets as I was batting beside him, reckoned Shreyas. Shreyas added that the plan was set for Ventakesh Iyer to play anchor and Cummins was expected to just swing at everything like he used to do earlier.
I couldn’t believe the way Pat Cummins was striking the ball: Shreyas Iyer
“Extraordinary! I couldn’t believe the way he (Cummins) was striking the ball. Because yesterday when I saw him batting in the nets, he was getting bowled every now and then. I was batting in the nets beside him then. During the timeout, the plan was for Venky to drop anchor and tell Pat to just swing at everything because that’s what he was doing before too,” he said about Venkatesh Iyer,” said Shreyas Iyer during the post-match presentation.
“When I went in to bat, I told him to just time the ball because he was overhitting the ball a bit. We have to take responsibility as top-order batters. All of us have the ability to hit the ball long. In the powerplay in both innings, the pitch was quite the same. After the powerplay, it got a lot easier I guess,” he added.
The Australian great smashed the joint-fastest fifty in IPL’s history and equalled KL Rahul’s record in the same game as he collected four fours and six sixes in his kitty. Venkatesh played anchor with his 50 off 41 to form the base for KKR.
