SA vs BAN: Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam to return home amid injury concerns

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed that fast bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam will return home from the South Africa tour after picking up an injury in the first Test. Taskin has been at the peak of his form in recent times and played a vital part in the historic ODI series win for Bangladesh in South Africa. However, he sustained an injury to his right shoulder during the first innings of the Durban Test and did not bowl for a considerable period of time.

Taskin bowled 23 overs in the first innings giving away 69 runs but did not pick up any wicket. In the second innings, Taskin picked up the wicket of skipper Dean Elgar but could not continue his spell due to a sore shoulder and came back later in the day to dismiss Keshav Maharaj. On the other hand, Shoriful has been one of the rising sensations of the Bangladesh team and he missed out on playing the first Test due to concerns over his back.

We are not flying any substitute for them: BCB chief selector

The BCB chief selector confirmed that the fast bowling duo of Taskin and Shoriful will return home due to their injury concerns and noted that there won’t be any replacements for them. He added that the remaining four quicks in the squad are likely to be used for the second and final Test at the St George’s Oval, Port Elizabeth.

“They are returning home as both of them are injured and we are not flying any substitute for them. We have four fast bowlers remaining in the squad. So we are covered,” BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin told Cricbuzz.
