Birthday special: Jofra Archer – His 5 best spells

Archer

One of the most lethal and premier fast bowlers in world cricket right now, Jofra Archer will turn 27 on April 01, 2022. Born in Bridgetown, Barbados, Archer came into the limelight in the 2018 Indian Premier League (IPL) edition when he took 15 wickets for his franchise Rajasthan Royals (RR), as he gave the world a glimpse of his express pace. With his exceptional bowling, he has terrified the batters both internationally and in franchise cricket.

Let’s take a look at the 5 best spells bowled by him in all cricket:

1.vs Australia (6/45, Test)

The right-arm quick took 6/45 in the first innings of the third Test against Australia in the 2019 Ashes series. In 17.1 overs, Archer bowled three maidens and dismissed a well-settled David Warner for 61 runs. He snared five more scalps in that innings of the Headingley Test to register his best figures in the longest format of the game. Australia was bowled out for just 179 runs as England won that exciting game to level the series 1-1.

2.vs Australia (6/62, Test)

In the final game of that series at The Oval in London, Archer again came back to haunt the Aussies to pick 6/62, his second-best figures in Tests, in the first innings. In 23.5 overs, the pacer bowled nine maidens to bundle out the Australians for 225 in reply to England’s 294. England won the match and again leveled the series and the Ashes 2-2, with Archer winning the Player of the Match award.

3.vs South Africa (3/27, ODI)

Archer’s best figures in the ODIs came in the opening match of the 2019 World Cup against South Africa at The Oval in London. England scored 311 as Jofra Archer took three big wickets of Aiden Markram, skipper Faf du Plessis, and Rassie van der Dussen to dismiss the Proteas for just 207 runs. He bowled seven overs with figures of 3/27 including a maiden.

4.vs Delhi Capitals (3/19, IPL)

Archer bowled a fiery spell of 3/19 in four overs with 14 dot balls against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020 in Dubai. He took the prized wickets of Prithvi Shaw, Marcus Stoinis, and Ajinkya Rahane to register his second-best bowling performance in the IPL. Though his side Rajasthan Royals (RR) couldn’t wicket the match, the seamer finished the 2020 edition with 20 wickets to his name.

5.vs Punjab Kings (3/15, IPL)

Archer scripted his best IPL figures against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 2019 season. He took 3/15 with 15 dot balls in four overs in Mohali. The deadly pacer got rid of West Indies big-hitters like Chris Gayle and Nicholas Pooran on a day where all his other four teammates went for over 30 runs.
