IPL 2022: DC – 3 players to watch out for

Rishabh Pant

The Delhi Capitals have made some smart buys at the IPL 2022 mega auction in Bengaluru last month having welcomed the likes of the explosive Australian opener David Warner, India bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur, Bangladesh pace sensation Mustafizur Rahman to name a few.

With a rebuilt squad, DC would be hoping to rewrite history this time around as they eye a major IPL crown. Without further ado, here’s a look at three of the players who can star for the franchise in the upcoming season.

David Warner:

The Delhi-based franchise welcomed David Warner for INR 6.25 crore at the two-day mega auction. He was released by the 2016 winners Sunrisers Hyderabad after a forgettable 2021 season where he only managed 195 runs from eight games at an average of 24.37 and a strike rate of 107.73.

However, it needs to be noted that the southpaw has won the Orange Cap thrice in the 2015, 2017 and 2019 editions respectively and is also the fifth-highest run-getter in the tournament history with 5449 runs from 150 matches including four centuries and 50 half-centuries.

Rishabh Pant:

Rishabh Pant was Delhi’s first choice retention for IPL 2022 as captain. He has been offered a staggering INR 16 crore. The southpaw has been one of the consistent performers for the franchise in the last few years.

In fact, the wicketkeeper-batter finished with 419 runs from 16 matches averaging 34.91 and a strike rate of 128.52 including three half-centuries in 2021 which was also his first season as full-time captain. Pant would be hoping to come out all guns blazing this time as well.

Shardul Thakur:

Shardul Thakur has been roped in by the Capitals for INR 10.75 crore at the IPL 2022 mega auction. Despite having played an instrumental role in the Chennai Super Kings’ fourth IPL title triumph last year, the bowling all-rounder was released by the defending champions.

Thakur finished as the fourth-highest wicket-taker in 2021 having registered 21 scalps to his name from 16 outings averaging 25.09 and an economy rate of 8.80. He can also be a handy batter lower down the order.

Being a part of CSK’s title wins in 2018 and 2021, the Mumbai cricketer is aware of bringing out the best in him during the crunch knockout games and Delhi would be relying on his experience.
