IPL 2022: Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul heap praises on each other
Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, India’s batting pillars in all three formats will be leading IPL teams in the upcoming season. The IPL 2022 begins on 26th March with Chennai Super Kings taking on Kolkata Knight Riders. Shreyas will be leading Kolkata Knight Riders this season whereas KL Rahul shall be at the helm for Lucknow Super Giants. These two batsmen showered praises on each other ahead of the tournament.
KL Rahul’s on-field decision making is very instinctive: Shreyas Iyer
“It was nice to play under him. Firstly, he is an outstanding player. The confidence he carries on the field and in the team meetings, the support that he provides to the players is great. He’s got a very calm demeanor and his on-field decision-making is very instinctive. I really enjoyed playing under him. Also, he gave me three overs of bowling, which none of the captains previously had done. So yeah, he’s my favorite captain!” said Iyer while speaking on Red Bull Cricket Room on Clubhouse.
Iyer had bowled three overs and went wicketless conceding 21 runs at an economy rate of seven during the third ODI against South Africa at Cape Town in January this year. KL Rahul was the stand-in captain in the ODI series. The Men In Blue went on to suffer a humiliating 0-3 whitewash.
Meanwhile, LSG skipper Rahul has lauded Iyer for his hitting range. To note, KKR bagged the services of Iyer for a whopping INR 12.25 crore in the mega auction. The 27-year-old, who was an integral part of the Delhi Capitals previously, was also named the captain of two-time IPL winners for the upcoming edition.
He is a really good player of spin: KL Rahul on Shreyas Iyer
“He is a really good player of spin. He is one of the players who doesn’t really step out too much, he is a tall boy so has a long reach. He just stands and hits them out of the park. This really puts the spinners under pressure. That’s something I dread when he plays against our team in the IPL,” Rahul said during an interaction in Red Bull Cricket Room on Clubhouse.
Both Iyer and Rahul will now be hoping to take their respective teams to new heights this time around. KKR will be facing the defending champions CSK in the curtain-raiser at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on March 26. LSG will start their campaign against the other new entrants Gujarat Titans at the same venue on March 28.
