IPL 2022: 5 Players who suffered a heavy pay cut in the auction

Jaydev Unadkat

The mega auctions for IPL 2022 concluded on Sunday. The 2-day affair took place in Bengaluru on the 12th and the 13th of February. Ishan Kishan became the most expensive buy in the auction when he was bought for a whopping INR 15.25 Crore by the Mumbai Indians. While some names bagged bids that were way higher than what was expected of them, some big names went for lesser bucks than the last time around. Let’s look at such few names.

Pat Cummins

Cummins had become the most expensive overseas buy in IPL history before Chris Morris in 2021 when Kolkata Knight Riders bought him for Rs 15.5 crore after a bidding war with Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals at the 2020 auction. Cummins this time around experienced a sharp cut in pay as he was bought by KKR again for INR 7.25 Crore.

Manish Pandey

The last time Manish Pandey was in the auction before 2022 was in 2018 wherein he caused a bidding frenzy among the franchises before being bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for a whopping INR 11 Crore. However, after a few average seasons with the SRH, he did not go for much money this time around as he was bought for INR 4.6 Crore by the Lucknow Super Giants.

Jaydev Unadkat

Jaydev Unadkat was one of the hot commodities in the 2018 IPL auctions after having a stellar season with the now defunct Rising Pune Super Giants. He was bought by the Rajasthan Royals in the 2018 auctions at a huge price of INR 11.5 Crore. In the 2021 auctions, his price dropped to INR 8.5 Crore. His stocks further went down in this year’s auction when he was bought for just INR 1.3 crore by the Mumbai Indians.

Krishnappa Gowtham

He grabbed the headlines when he played a blinder of an innings, scoring 33* off 11 to defeat the Mumbai Indians in a thrilling affair in 2017. Gowtham was bought for a huge sum of INR 9.25 crore by the Chennai Super Kings in 2021 while in 2022 he was bought for a mere INR 0.9 crore by the Lucknow Super Giants.

David Warner

The talismanic left-handed batter from Australia was retained by the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2021 for INR 12.5 Crore. However, the Aussie opener was expected to go for really big bucks at the 2022 IPL auctions but however, he was sold for a mere INR 6.25 Crore to the Delhi Capitals, a lot lower than his previous IPL salary.
