With the 2022 edition of the ICC Women’s World Cup fast approaching, the eight participating teams are going through their respective preparations. The World Cups over the years have provided the fans with many brilliant bowling performances. However, there have been certain bowlers who have shown exceptional consistency over multiple editions.

Here’s looking at five current players with the most wickets in World Cups.

Katherine Brunt- England (25 wickets in 26 matches)

Senior English quick bowler Katherine Brunt is placed fifth on the list with 25 scalps in 26 matches. She averages 28.96 with her best figures in an innings reading 4/29. At an economy of under 3.5 RPO, Brunt has one four-wicket haul to her name in the four World Cups she has played in so far.

Anya Shrubsole-England (25 wickets in 15 matches)

England’s right-arm medium bowler Anya Shrubsole takes the third position with 25 wickets in 15 games. She has taken her wickets at an average of 17 and an economy of 3.95. Her best performance in an innings read 6/46. She has one 4-wicket haul and two five-wicket hauls to her name. Shrubsole has so far played three World Cups with her first being in 2009.

Megan Schutt- Australia (25 wickets in 14 matches)

Another Australian bowler on this list is Megan Schutt. The fast-medium bowler has represented her nation in two World Cups so far with the first being in 2013. Schutt has taken 25 wickets in 14 games at an average of 22.16 with a best of 3/40 in an innings. Her economy hovers around 4.50.

Ellyse Perry – Australia (26 wickets in 18 matches)

Australian star all-rounder Ellyse Perry is next on the list with 26 wickets in 18 World Cup matches. The quick bowler has so far represented her country in three World Cups with her first being in 2009. Perry has a bowling average close to 25 with an economy of just over four runs per over. Her best figures in an innings read 3/19. The all-rounder goes into her fourth World Cup as an important member of Australia’s bowling attack.

Jhulan Goswami – India (36 wickets in 28 matches)

Jhulan Goswami leads the chart as the highest wicket-taker in World Cup cricket so far amongst all current players. The spearhead of the Indian pace attack played her first World Cup back in 2005. Since then, she has represented India at four editions with the latest being in 2017. Goswami has picked up 36 wickets in 28 games. She has an impressive average of 20.02 with an economy under four runs per over. The Kolkata born cricketer has figures of 4/16 in an innings as her best with two four-wicket hauls to her name.
