3 captains to lose the most consecutive Test matches
Test cricket is considered the hardest format to thrive as a team needs to do well in all aspects to earn a favourable result. While the batters need to toil for hours and even days sometimes to help their team post a potent total. At the same time, taking 20 wickets in a game is mandatory for teams to win a Test match.
Hence, bowlers also play a vital role. However, it’s the captain of the team who decides the batting order and rotation of bowlers. Hence, leadership is a vital aspect of the purest format of the game. The history of the game has seen many players embracing the captaincy challenge and passing with flying colours. However, there are some names who have endured a hard time as Test captain.
Meanwhile, let’s look at three captains with the longest losing streak in Test matches:
3. Mohammad Ashraful – 8
Seen as the wasted talent, Mohammad Ashraful started his international career with a bang and was expected to take Bangladesh cricket to great heights. Owing to the same, he also got the captaincy role in the year 2007. However, he suffered defeats in his first eight Tests as skipper and earned massive criticism. Overall, the Bangla Tigers lost 12 out of 13 Tests under Ashraful with the remaining game resulting in a draw.
2. Khaled Mahmud -9
Former Bangladesh captain Khaled Mahmud occupies second place in this not-so-elite list. The all-rounder earned the captaincy in 2003 when he was just three Test matches old. The decision from the board wasn’t fruitful as Mahmud never enjoyed captaincy. Bangladesh lost all nine Test matches under the all-rounder.
1. Khaled Mashud – 12
In Khaled Mashud, we have another Bangladesh player on this list. The wicketkeeper-batter led Bangladesh between 2001 and 2004 and his record is not impressive by any means. He holds the record of losing most consecutive Test matches as captain and also holds the record for leading in most Test matches with a 100% losing record. Bangladesh played 12 Tests under him and suffered defeats every single time.
