We are clear about the team combination for T20 World Cup 2022: Rahul Dravid
Team India’s preparation for the T20 World Cup 2022 looks on song as they whitewashed New Zealand and West Indies 3-0 respectively in their last two T20I assignments. This year’s gala tournament will take place in Australia and the Men in Blue will have a point to prove. After all, they suffered a horrendous campaign last year and couldn’t even clear the group stage.
Owing to the same, the team management would want all the loopholes to be filled ahead of the competition. Meanwhile, finding the right combination would be the team’s top priority. With the gala competition being less than eight months away, head coach Rahul Dravid said there’s no set formula for the combination. However, he and Rohit Sharma are pretty clear about the squad for the T20 World Cup.
We want to give everyone a fair chance: Rahul Dravid
“I think we have got a fair idea between Rohit and myself and the selectors and the management. I don’t think there’s a set formula to it. But we’re pretty clear about the balance and the combination (for the T20 World Cup)…We are just structuring a little bit of the team around it and also balancing individual workloads as well,” Dravid said after their 17-run win over the West Indies.
“We have got a pretty fair idea of the kind of skills we’re looking for in Australia, with the kind of guys who are in running. Not everything is set in stone but we want to give everyone a fair chance to stake their claim for those spots,” he added.
Meanwhile, India will now host Sri Lanka in three T20Is, starting on February 24. With the likes of KL Rahul, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant not participating in the series, India’s bench strength will be up for a test.
“You don’t want to cast your net too wide. We don’t also want to restrict ourselves to just 15 players. We want to give players opportunities, ensure that by the time we get to the World Cup, some of our guys have played at least 10-15-20 games,” asserted Dravid.
