India’s five most memorable T20I wins
India registered their 100th win (including all tied wins) in T20Is when they defeated West Indies in the second game of the three-match series on February 18, 2022, at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The team has come a long way in the T20I format as they won the inaugural T20 WC in 2007. There have been many memorable victories for the Asian giants in this particular format.
Let’s take a look at India’s 5 Best T20I wins ever
5. vs South Africa (2006)
India played their first-ever T20I against South Africa in 2006 in Johannesburg. The Proteas scored 126/9 in 20 overs after two-wicket hauls from Zaheer Khan and Ajit Agarkar. In reply, Sehwag, Dinesh Mongia, and Dinesh Karthik all scored the thirties with Karthik finishing the match on the penultimate delivery to clinch victory for India in their very first T20I by 6 wickets.
4. vs Bangladesh (2018)
The occasion was the Nidahas trophy final against Bangladesh in 2018 and Dinesh Karthik stole the show again. The Bangla Tigers posted 166/8 thanks to Sabbir Rahman’s 77 runs. In reply, Rohit Sharma scored 56 but India needed 12 off the last over. Karthik was already on 22* off 6 and with five runs required off the last ball, he smashed Soumya Sarkar for a six to win a thriller of a final.
3. vs Bangladesh (2016)
It was again Bangladesh in the 2016 T20 WC in Bangalore when India won a hell of a match. The hosts managed 146/7 with no batter converting their starts. Bangladesh required 11 runs from the last over as Hardik Pandya came to bowl. Nine runs were struck in the first three deliveries but then came the brain-fade moment from Bangladesh batters with three wickets falling in the last three balls as India won a cliff-hanger by just a solitary run.
2. vs Pakistan (2007)
India and Pakistan faced each other in the group match of 2007 T20 WC in Durban. India posted 141/9 with Mohammad Asif snaring 4 scalps. In reply, Misbah-ul-Haq fought till the end to score 53. With 12 needed in the last over Sreesanth held his nerve to concede 11 runs as the game ended in a tie. A bowl-out followed after which India won the game eventually.
1. vs Pakistan (2007)
One of the most rip-roaring T20I ever played and India was a part of it when they faced Pakistan in the 2007 T20 WC Final in Johannesburg. Gautam Gambhir made 75 as India scored 157/5. Misbah-ul-Haq was at the rescue again and with 13 needed off the last over, he mistimed a scoop to lose the match by just 5 runs. India won their first T20 WC trophy in the inaugural season and it’s one of the most memorable and fascinating T20I victories for the Men in Blue.
