Reports: Simon Helmot appointed Sunrisers Hyderabad assistant coach

Sunrisers Hyderabad were one of the teams who had made some smart buys at the recently- concluded IPL 2022 mega auction in order to rebuild their squad ahead of the 15th edition of the marquee tournament that is expected to get underway on March 27. However, hardly a week after the two-day event concluded, SRH received an unexpected setback when their assistant coach Simon Katich had resigned from his post with immediate effect on Friday.

As per reports, Katich decided to resign as Hyderabad’s assistant coach as he was not convinced with the franchise’s strategies that they had followed during the IPL 2022 mega auction. While the former Australian Test specialist’s resignation did come as a shocker, the Orange Army has decided that the show must go on, and therefore, they have named his replacement. Simon Katich’s countryman Simon Helmot has been named SRH’s next assistant coach.

Simon Helmot to takes over from Simon Katich

After Simon Katich decided to part ways with the 2016 champions, SRH hired Simon Helmot as the former’s replacement as per a report in Cricbuzz. Helmot was associated with Hyderabad from 2012 to 2019 as a member of their coaching staff. Apart from that the former Melbourne Renegades coach has also guided the Trinbago Knight Riders to a Caribbean Premier League (CPL) triumph in the 2015 season. The 50-year-old would be hoping to work in tandem with former Australian all-rounder Tom Moody who is the current head coach of the franchise as the Orange Army look forward to winning their second IPL title after a forgettable season last year having finished as the wooden-spooners for the very first time.

SRH’s most successful captain, David Warner has been roped in by the Delhi Capitals for INR 6.25 crore after not being in SRH’s scheme of things for the 2022 edition. The Sunrisers Hyderabad would now be hoping that their current skipper, as well as the first-choice retention ,Kane Williamson, would brilliantly lead them from the front and take the franchise’s legacy forward.
