NZ vs SA: Top 5 players to watch out for
South Africa are all set to tour New Zealand for a two-match Test series which begins on the 17th February 2022. South Africa will be heading into the series with a lot of confidence as they stopped India’s foreign juggernaut in the Test format earlier this year. While New Zealand on the other hand had an average test series against Bangladesh where the Bangla tigers were successful in drawing the test series by 1-1.
Surprisingly, New Zealand who seem almost impenetrable at home, have never won a series against the Proteas at home. It will be interesting to see if the Kiwis will turn things around this time. With the prospect of a thriller of a series in our hands, let’s take a look at the 5 players to look out for in the series.
Devon Conway
Devon Conway has had a dream start to his international career, scoring runs whenever he has played for the Kiwis. Conway grabbed headlines when he hit a double hundred at Lord’s against a strong England bowling line-up. He was also the man of the tournament in their last series against Bangladesh.
Tom Latham
Tom Latham apart from being an accomplished batter, has also been assigned captaincy as Kane Williamson misses out the series due to his longstanding injury. Latham has been in terrific form with a bat. He’ll be coming off fresh from a double century against Bangladesh.
Dean Elgar
The South African skipper was at the forefront of Proteas’ chase at Johannesburg with an impressive 96* to lead his team to victory in the 2nd Test match against India. On a difficult pitch to bat, Elgar weathered several body blows and ensured that his team got over the line. He was also the second-highest run-scorer in that series.
Marco Jansen
The 21-year-old impressed one all with his ability to bowl good lengths, swing the ball and extract bounce from the surface, owing to his height. He was the second-highest wicket-taker in the home series against India, taking 19 wickets from three matches.
Kagiso Rabada
The 26-year-old tearaway quick has been garnering appreciation for his ability to bowl at a fiery pace and also for long spells without showing any fatigue. Rabada was outstanding in the series against India, wherein Elgar trusted him to bring a breakthrough whenever the team needed one and he succeeded in doing so. He also ended the series as the highest wicket-taker as he took 20 wickets from three matches.
