IPL 2022 mega auction: 3 teams who will be bidding heavily for Shreyas Iyer
Shreyas Iyer will be moving out from the Delhi franchise for the very first time in seven seasons. He was arguably their most successful batter and made a statement right away when he had made his IPL debut in 2015 before taking up the leadership responsibility midway in the 2018 edition.
The middle-order season was all set to lead the Capitals in IPL 2021 before a shoulder injury him out for the first phase of the tournament and while he did return during the second leg, he was a part of the team as a player as Rishabh Pant, who replaced him was doing a fantastic job and the management did not want to disturb the rhythm. Iyer reportedly was in DC’s scheme of things for IPL 2022 but not as a skipper and therefore, he demanded his release from the franchise to make an impact elsewhere.
Here are the three teams that can rope in Shreyas Iyer during the IPL 2022 mega auction
Punjab Kings:
PBKS had already made up their mind to retain KL Rahul for IPL 2022 but, he did not oblige and wanted to try his luck elsewhere. Therefore, the 2014 finalists would be trying their level best to rope in Shreyas Iyer and also give him a chance to lead them in the 15th edition as their hunt for a maiden silverware continues.
Kolkata Knight Riders:
Kolkata Knight Riders have retained the Caribbean power-hitter Andre Russell, explosive opener Venkatesh Iyer and mystery spinners Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy and parted ways with many renowned players including last year’s captain Eoin Morgan who was poor with the bat throughout the tournament. Thus, the former champions could bring Shreyas Iyer on board considering that they are looking for a permanent captain in the long run.
Royal Challengers Bangalore:
RCB have only retained three players – Virat Kohli, the team’s pace spearhead Mohammed Siraj and star Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell. Meanwhile, Kohli stepped down from captaincy after the 2021 edition and one of their key players AB de Villiers has also decided to retire from all forms of the game and would not be available for RCB as a player in the 2022 season. Therefore, they might shell out big bucks on Iyer.
