3 teams who need captains for IPL 2022
The IPL 2022 mega auction is a couple of weeks from getting underway in Bengaluru on the 12th and 13th of February. 590 players have been shortlisted for the mega auction and they have set their base prices. This will be the first ten team IPL edition since 2010-11 and the new franchises, Lucknow and Ahmedabad. have named their three retentions as well. Captaincy is going to be a huge factor in setting up the core of the team for the next few years and let us look at 3 teams who will be searching for captains in the IPL 2022 mega auction.
Royal Challengers Bangalore:
The Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise has a huge fan base around the world and any player who gets the captaincy role will relish it. Virat Kohli stepped down from IPL captaincy after the last season owing to cut down a lot of responsibilities on his shoulders. They have retained the likes of Kohli(15Cr), Glenn Maxwell(11Cr) and Mohammad Siraj(7Cr) and they will be eyeing up the captaincy options. The franchise is yet to win an IPL and it will be interesting to see a new captain can turn their fortunes around.
Kolkata Knight Riders:
Kolkata Knight Riders have retained four players ahead of the IPL 2022 and captaincy has played a major role for them in reaching the finals last year. Eoin Morgan, who led the franchise in IPL 2021, wasn’t in the best of forms with the bat and wasn’t retained ahead of the mega auction. Head coach Brendon McCullum has done a great job in terms of working with the captain and he is expected to have a big say while naming the next captain as well. Shreyas Iyer is expected to be on their radar as he ticks a lot of boxes.
Punjab Kings:
Punjab Kings have retained Mayank Agarwal(12 Cr) and Arshdeep Singh(4 Cr) ahead of the mega auctions but are yet to finalise their captain. With KL Rahul opting to move to a new franchise, Punjab Kings will have their work cut out in terms of finding the right candidate in the mega auction. They have had pretty ordinary outings since the previous mega auction in 2018 and they will definitely know the value of choosing the captain wisely.
