Do you know? – Sachin Tendulkar beats Shane Warne in this bowling record

Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar is the mightiest name in the sport of cricket. Having played the sport for a whopping 24 years, there is no list of batting records that do not have the name of the ‘Little Master’ in it. 664 international appearances, 34,357 runs, 100 centuries, 164 half-centuries, Tendulkar’s numbers speak for his longevity and consistency.

With such batting feats, Tendulkar’s ability with the ball has often been overlooked. Tendulkar was more than a capable bowler and has been the creator of many famous spells, where he did what even the designated bowlers in the team could not. With 201 wickets to his name in international cricket, the ‘Little Master’ has shown that he was no mug in the other department of the game.

During his playing days, Tendulkar played with and against a plethora of cricketers, including one of his famous on-field rivals, Shane Warne. The Tendulkar-Warne rivalry used to be one of the most sought-after, and both the legends managed to outsmart each other with their exploits multiple times. The legendary Australian leg-spinner, Warne, has 708 wickets at 25.41 in 145 Tests, second only to Muttiah Muralitharan’s 800.

In 194 ODIs, Warne bagged 293 wickets at 25.73, taking his overall tally in international cricket to a whopping 1001. But there is one bowling record, where the batting legend Tendulkar stands superior to his Australian counterpart. While Warne has 37 five-wicket hauls in Tests, in One Day Internationals, he could manage only a solitary fifer in his entire 12-year career.

Many might not know, but Tendulkar has double the number of fifers in ODIs than Warne. Even though the number is only two, it is indeed a pleasant surprise to find that a man with 1001 wickets is behind the greatest batsman of all time in a bowling record!
