Reports: PCB to not hold opening ceremony ahead of PSL 2022
The 2022 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is just around the corner and fans can’t keep calm. The gala T20 competition gets underway on January 27 with the games taking place in Karachi and Lahore. However, as per the latest development, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided not to hold the opening ceremony ahead of the seventh season.
The past editions of the competition saw cultural activities taking place on the eve of the opening game. However, nothing as such will happen in the 2022 competition. The decision was reportedly taken due to the COVID-19 situation and logistical problems. However, there will be a short ceremony in which PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja will address the players and the fans.
Meanwhile, this major report was carried out by Cricket Pakistan. It must be noted that there was no opening ceremony ahead of PSL 6 as well. The event was instead shot in Istanbul, Turkey owing to the same concerns as this time around. As far as the opening events of the other PSL seasons are concerned, the first four ceremonies were held at the Dubai International Stadium while the 2020 opening ceremony took place at the National Stadium in Karachi.
Multan Sultans will cross swords with Karachi Kings in the first match
While there won’t be any major event ahead of the competition, some fascinating battles over the 22 yards will treat the cricket fans during the competition. Defending champions Multan Sultans will cross swords with Karachi Kings in the first match, which takes place at the National Stadium in Lahore. Meanwhile, its also learned that the official anthem of this season will be released by January 20 or 21. The PCB officials are considering holding a program in this regard.
Meanwhile, PSL 2022 will see several local stars joining force with international stalwarts to take their team over the line. Pakistan’s T20I team has gone strength to strength in recent years and credit must go to PSL for producing talented cricketers every now and then. With the T20 World Cup taking place in Australia this year, PCB would want to see the rise of some more talented cricketers. Meanwhile, South African players won’t play in the competition as their national board hasn’t granted them NOCs.
