Ajaz Patel wins ICC Player of the Month award for December 2021

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that Ajaz Patel has won the ICC Player of the Month award. The Player of the Month awards for the month of December had 3 nominees, with India’s Mayank Agarwal and Australia’s Mitchell Starc being the other two, but it was Patel who grabbed the prize.

And, Patel won the award for his historic feat against the Indian side in the 2nd Test match in Mumbai, where the left-arm spinner became just the third person to scalp all 10 wickets to fall in a single Test innings.

And, Patel had also revealed that scalping 10 wickets will go down as one of the greatest moments of his career as well. “Personally I think one of the greatest cricketing days in my life. And it will probably always be,” Patel had said after the second Test match against the Indian side.

Also, former South African cricketer JP Duminy, who was a part of the voting process said that Patel had accomplished a historic feat which needs to be celebrated. Duminy also opined that Patel’s performance is one that will be remembered for a long time.

“What a historic achievement! Taking 10 wickets in an innings is a feat that needs to be celebrated. There’s no doubt that Ajaz performance is a milestone that will be remembered for years to come,” said JP Duminy about Patel’s historic feat.

Ajaz Patel has played 11 Test matches for the Black Caps and has taken 43 wickets in his career. He has also picked up 3 five-wicket hauls and a 10-wicket haul as well.
