David Warner defends Virat Kohli over lack of runs in recent times
Virat Kohli has been going through a rough patch and scored his last international century in November 2019 against Bangladesh. He has been criticized for his inability to score runs, but David Warner is someone who doesn’t feature on this list. He praised Kohli in a recent interview and said a number of positive things about him.
Warner focused on the effect of bio-bubble on a cricketer and that Kohli recently had a baby. He further mentioned that in the past, the Indian Test skipper played some of the brilliant innings for the Indian team and has earned the right to fail. The Aussie opener also felt that more pressure shouldn’t be put on Kohli.
“A lot of people talk about Virat Kohli’s form over the last couple of years. We have gone through a pandemic. He has just had a baby. We only see how well he has done. You are allowed to fail. You have earned the right to fail when you are so good at what you do.
“People say Steve Smith doesn’t score a century in his fourth innings because stats say he scores a century every four innings. He is human. You are allowed to have a rough trot. That is why there are a lot more pressure on those guys. But would not feel the pressure, I guarantee that,” Warner said in an interview with sports journalist Boria Majumdar.
Virat Kohli is currently playing in the Test series against South Africa. Under his captaincy, India won the first Test of the series in Centurion and became the first Asian team to achieve this feat. But, he was absent from the second Test due to an upper back spasm which allowed KL Rahul to make his captaincy debut.
South Africa managed to win the second Test and level the series. The third and final Test match is scheduled to be played on January 11 in Cape Town.
