IPL 2022: SRH name star-studded support staff for upcoming season
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have named their support staff going into the 2022 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). After serving as their head coach from 2013 to 2019, former Australia all-rounder Tom Moody has returned to the helm. In the last two seasons, Moody served as SRH’s Director of Cricket while Trevor Bayliss worked as their head coach.
Moody replaced Bayliss after the Orange Army finished at the bottom of the points table in the previous edition. Legendary batter Brian Lara has been named as SRH’s batting coach for the next edition. The Caribbean southpaw will also work as the strategy advisor of the team. The Sunrisers, in the meantime, have roped in Dale Steyn as their pace bowling coach.
Muttiah Muralitharan was SRH’s bowling mentor in IPL 2021, but the team didn’t have a specific bowling coach. Even as Steyn will take care of the fast-bowling department, the Lankan legend will be in charge of the spin department. Simon Katich has replaced Brad Haddin as the assistant coach of the Sunrisers.
Katich had earlier worked with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Former Indian left-handed batter Hemang Badani has been appointed as the fielding coach and scout of the 2016 IPL-winning team.

After a dismal outing last time around in India and the UAE, the Sunrisers put forth quite a few surprises in the retentions. They let go the likes of David Warner, Jason Holder and Rashid Khan, who all were integral part of the franchise for the last half-a-decade.
SRH retained Kane Williamson for INR 14 crore, fast bowler Umran Malik for INR 4 crore and young all-rounder Abdul Samad for INR 4 crores. Midway through the 2021 edition, Williamson had replaced Warner as the skipper of the Sunrisers.
The Sunrisers have to go back to the drawing board before the mega auction for the next season takes place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru.
