Sachin Tendulkar warned me about Kapil Dev’s bowling action: Ranveer Singh
The Ranveer Singh starrer, 83 will hit the big screens on 24th December 2021. The film is one of the most anticipated ones of the year, as it talks about the journey of the Indian cricket team in the 1983 World Cup under the stewardship of Kapil Dev.
And now, Ranveer Singh, who portrays the role of Kapil Dev in the film has opened up on how he tried to mimic Kapil Dev’s bowling action. Singh admitted that it was a difficult bowling action to imitate, and for seven months at a stretch, he would practice bowling for 4 hours every single day.
Singh also added that for many weeks, he was not able to make any significant improvement. Ranveer Singh also revealed that right from the legendary Sachin Tendulkar to Hardik Pandya, everyone questioned him as to how he was going to imitate Kapil Dev’s bowling action.
“It was the bowling action (difficult to mimic). For 7 months, I was bowling 4 hours a day. For a number of weeks, I was not able to make any headway. He has this unique biomechanics. He can only bowl the way he bowls. You name it, Sachin Tendulkar, Hardik Pandya… whoever I met is telling me ‘How are you going to do the action,” said Ranveer Singh in a chat with Rajdeep Sardesai on India Today.

Ranveer Singh also said that he met Sachin Tendulkar at Lord’s, and even the master batsman agreed that it would not be an easy job to mimic Kapil Dev’s bowling action. Singh admitted that the task was not easy for months together.
“We were at Lord’s, It rained out, Kabir sir and myself met Sachin Tendulkar. He told me ‘Yeah, you are playing the 83 film, you are playing Kapil Dev, too good. You are going to bowl like him. Oh… accha’. I was being given a heads up from everybody that this is not going to be easy. And it wasn’t for many months,” concluded Ranveer Singh.
