Sourav Ganguly lauds India head coach Rahul Dravid for his humility

Sourav Ganguly, the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, has praised Rahul Dravid for giving an account of his humble and down-to-earth nature. Earlier this year, Dravid coached Team India on the tour of Sri Lanka after which he took charge as a full-timer from the New Zealand T20Is onwards.

Under his tutelage, India comprehensively defeated the Black Caps in both the bilateral series. In fact, India didn’t drop a single game out of five, winning four of them. Dravid and India could have managed to make it five out of five, but they fell short by a mere one wicket in the Kanpur Test.

On Dravid, Ganguly said that the veteran was picking up the cones, wickets and balls from the ground after a practice session during the opening Test at the Green Park.

He is that sort of a person, says Sourav Ganguly

“I wish him (Dravid) all the best. I heard that in Kanpur, after the day’s practice he was picking up the cones and wickets and balls and bringing them back to the dressing room. It must have been a great sight for cameramen and photographers to see Rahul Dravid do that (smiles). But he is that sort of a person,” Ganguly said on News18.

Ganguly also said that the BCCI will lend Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli enough support in their captaincy tenures. “We will support him and Rohit and Virat in Test cricket whichever way they want,” he added.

After the T20 World Cup 2021, Kohli stepped down as Team India’s T20 captain following which he was removed as the ODI skipper. Ganguly said that he had requested Kohli to not relinquish T20I captaincy.

“It’s like I said… I personally requested him (Kohli) not to give up T20 captaincy. Obviously, he felt the workload. Which is fine, he has been a great cricketer, he has been very intense with his cricket. He has captained for a long period of time and these things happen. Because I have captained for a long period of time; therefore, I know. Also, they wanted only one white-ball captain,” Ganguly added.
