Ashes 2021-22: 1st Test Review – Aussies go 1-0 up after England’s collapse

England collapsed in sensational fashion on the morning of Day 4 at The Gabba in Brisbane. Resuming the day at 220/2, the Joe Root-led side lost its next 8 wickets for the addition of just 77 runs.

Nathan Lyon ripped through the England batting lineup and took 4 wickets in the second innings. Australia were set a meager target of 20 runs for victory and romped home with 9 wickets to spare. Australia were dominant right through the Test match at their fortress, The Gabba.

After skittling England out for just 147 in the 1st innings, they put up a massive total of 425 on the board, with Travis Head scoring a superb 152. And in the second innings, even though Joe Root and Dawid Malan put on a fighting partnership of 162 runs, the rest of the England batters did not offer any support at all.

With this victory, Australia have started the 2021-22 Ashes series on a comprehensive note, while England have a lot of thinking to do.
