IND vs NZ: Top 10 records from the Test series

Team India

Test cricket was at its best in the recently-concluded two-match series between India and New Zealand. While India eventually walked away with a 1-0 triumph, there were several impressive performances from the New Zealand camp as well. The opening clash, which took place at the Green Park in Kanpur, couldn’t have been tighter as the proceedings went right down to the wire.

India were just one wicket away from victory and the Kiwis looked in all sorts of trouble. However, valiant efforts from Rachin Ravindra and Ajaz Patel earned a draw for the visitors. Meanwhile, the second and final Test saw the hosts walking away with a 372-run triumph. The defending World Test Championship winners never really looked in the hunt and were outplayed in all three departments.

Meanwhile, India have displaced New Zealand as the top-ranked Test team with this series win. Owing to some high-profile matches in recent years, these two sides have developed some sort of rivalry. Hence, fans would be waiting to see India and New Zealand’s next meeting over the 2 yards.

Meanwhile, let’s look at the top 10 records made and broken during the IND vs NZ Test series:

Ajaz Patel became the third bowler after England’s Jim Laker and India’s Anil Kumble to take all 10 wickets on offer in an innings.

Ajaz’s figures of 14/225 are best by a bowler in a losing cause of a Test match and against India.

Ravichandran Ashwin went past Harbhajan Singh’s tally of 417 scalps and became India’s third-highest wicket-taker in Test matches.

Ashwin also became only the second bowler after Anil Kumble to take 300 Test wickets on Indian soil.

Ashwin also became the second-fastest bowler to take 300 Test wickets at home, getting the milestone in 49 games. Muttiah Muralitharan (48) tops the list.

Ashwin became the first bowler to complete 50 Test wickets in 2021.

R Ashwin won his ninth Player-of-the-Series award in Tests. Only Muttiah Muralitharan (11) is ahead of him.

India’s 372-run triumph in the second Test is their biggest in terms of runs in the longest format.

Shreyas Iyer became the first Indian batter to score a hundred and a fifty on his Test debut.

Virat Kohli became the first-ever player to win at least 50 matches across each of the three formats as a player.
