IPL 2022: Four players MI are likely to retain ahead of mega auction

Mumbai Indians are the five-time champions in the history of the Indian Premier League. Albeit they failed to qualify for the playoffs in 2021, they remain a brute force. However, with the mega auction coming up, they need to zero in on the four players they want to retain. Over the years, MI have had plenty of cricketers, who have performed exceptionally and selecting four players may not be easy.

Here are the four players MI may retain ahead of the mega auction

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma is currently the most successful skipper in the history of the IPL. After taking over from Ricky Ponting in 2013, the Nagpur-born has taken MI to greater heights, making them the champions as many as five times. Rohit has also been stupendous as a top-order batter and is among the leading run-scorers in the tournament. Barring a miraculous situation, MI are most likely to retain him.

Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah has been a tough nut to crack over the years. The speedster made a name for himself in T20 cricket after which he forayed into ODI and Test cricket as well. The pacer has been phenomenal for the Mumbai-based team after making his IPL debut back in 2013. Bumrah is someone, who can bowl at various stages of a game and it shouldn’t spring a surprise if MI retain him.

Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan started his IPL career for the Gujarat Lions in 2017 after performing well in the 2016 U19 World Cup. But 2018 turned out to be crucial in his IPL career after he joined the Mumbai-based franchise. The southpaw has gone through his share of ups and downs, but in between, he has played some blinders for MI. In his previous two games against SRH and RR, he smashed the bowlers around the park.

Kieron Pollard

Mi roped in Kieron Pollard way back in 2010 after the Trinidadian played a blinder in a Champions League T20 game. The veteran has performed to the extent that he is currently their vice-captain. Pollard has been a brute force with the bat over the years, helping his team to victories from precarious positions. Pollard can also bowl handy medium pace and make crucial breakthroughs.
