AB de Villiers opens up on his wonderful relationship with RCB as he bids adieu to cricket
Batting colossus AB de Villiers announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on 19th November 2021. And now, de Villiers has opened up on the wonderful relationship that he has with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise.
The batting genius said that he has had a fruitful time playing for the RCB side for over a decade, and time has just whizzed by. Adding that arriving at his decision to retire took some time, the 37-year-old also said that he has pulled the curtains down on his career to spend more time with his family.
“I have had a long and fruitful time playing for RCB. Eleven years have just whizzed by and leaving the boys is extremely bittersweet. Of course, arriving at this decision took a lot of time, but after a lot of contemplation, I’ve decided to hang up my boots and spend quality time with my family,” said AB de Villiers in his statement.

AB de Villiers also thanked Virat Kohli, the RCB management as well as the fans for their constant support. Labelling his journey with the RCB franchise as a memorable one, de Villiers added that he has made so many memories with RCB that will last a lifetime. The legendary batter even said that he will remain an RCBian forever.
“I would like to thank the RCB management, my friend Virat Kohli, teammates, coaches, support staff, fans, and the entire RCB family for showing faith and supporting me all through these years. It has been a memorable journey with RCB.
Have so many memories on the personal front to cherish for a lifetime. RCB will always be very close to me and my family and will continue to support this amazing team. I am a RCBian forever,” concluded AB de Villiers.
ABD (as he is fondly referred to) played 184 matches in IPL cricket and scored 5162 runs at a superb average of 39.70, and a strike rate in excess of 150.
