India clearly has bowlers slightly better than Shami in T20s: Sanjay Manjrekar
India is all set to play against Scotland for their next fixture of T20 World Cup 2021 and would be aiming to clinch a massive win in order to better up their chances of qualifying for the semi-final. Talking ahead of the same game, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has come up with his opinion on pacer Mohammed Shami. Manjrekar feels that Shami is a great bowler and a great asset for India in the longest formats but isn’t the best one for the T20 format.
Shami struggled in India’s initial two games but returned with decent figures against Afghanistan where he clinched three wickets. Manjrekar stated that now it is high time for India to assess their T20 team as there are some players who may look good in other formats but don’t fit in the shortest format of the game.
The former cricketer also stated that India has now seen enough of Shami and maybe there’s a chance for other players now to step in. Shami’s economy in T20 cricket stands over 9 and it is just not good for the format and India certainly has better options than him, mulled the commentator.
I think we have seen enough of Mohammed Shami: Sanjay Manjrekar
“I think the time has come now for India to look at their T20 team and look at certain players and maybe assess whether these guys are better suited to playing some other format. Maybe there are some players in this T20 team who will add greater value or the best value that they can possibly add in one format and not be as good in the others. I am thinking about Mohammed Shami,” said Manjrekar while previewing the India-Scotland game on Dafa News.
“I think we have seen enough of Mohammed Shami to know that his greatest quality and where he’s a superb asset for the team is Test match cricket. The last time I looked, his economy in T20 cricket was 9. I know he bowled well against Afghanistan but India clearly has bowlers who are slightly better than Mohammed Shami in T20 cricket.”
